Releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on May 26th – and Nintendo Switch “shortly afterward,” where it’ll be priced at $39.99 – the Ico-inspired title is emerging from a fairly troubled development cycle, one in which Tequila was forced to reacquire the game’s rights after Sony severed ties with the Spanish developer. The finer details of said fallout remain a mystery, but if nothing else, players can take solace in the fact that Rime will now release as a multi-platform title across retail and digital stores.

News of the due date comes hand-in-hand with a new and extended gameplay demo from IGN. Embedded above, the 27-minute clip showcases Rime‘s opening, as you wash ashore a beautiful tropical island with only yourself for company. From there, you’ll begin to uncover the island’s many mysteries, be that solving puzzles a la The Witness or simply exploring the breathtaking vistas.

Per Tequila, the goal with Rime was “not only to create an enchanting and engaging adventure, but to craft a game where you see the world through the eyes of a child. We decided to move in this direction because there’s something so universal about it; after all, we were all children at some point.”

Rime is a single-player puzzle adventure game about discovery, experienced through the eyes of a young boy who awakens on a mysterious island after shipwrecking off its coast. Players must navigate the island’s secrets by making use of light, sound, perspective and even time. Inspired by the rugged, sunbaked terrain of the Mediterranean coast, Rime paints its breathtaking world with a fusion of vibrant colours and moving musical undertones to set the stage for the deeply personal journey that awaits within.

It’s official: Rime launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on May 26th.
