Earlier today 4J Studios revealed that the PlayStation 3 port of Minecraft will arrive ahead of the next-gen Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.

The developer, who is also responsible for the highly successful Xbox 360 port of Minecraft, made the announcement on their Twitter account, saying:

Highlighting the fact that the next generation versions of the game are not the current focus for the studio, 4J later added that “it [Minecraft on the PS4] won’t be a launch title,” and there are “no confirmed [release] dates” for either the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 ports.

Today’s Minecraft update comes as a bit of a surprise, as Sony had announced that the title would launch alongside the PlayStation 4 this coming Friday. Not only will that not be happening, but it also now looks like fans have a bit of a wait ahead of them while 4J Studios wraps up the PS3 version.

We will keep an eye out for any official word on Minecraft‘s release schedule, and let you know as soon as anything is announced.
