The latest entry into the long-running RPG series will introduce fans to a plethora of new features. Chief among those is the new-fangled battle mechanic, Alliance Attacks, which opens up a stat buff for players when all of their relationships are “appropriately aligned.” As a matter of fact, according to developer Nippon Ichi Software, the upcoming sequel will include “hilarious writing, over-the-top animations, and absurd damage numbers than anyone has seen in a Disgaea game. Ever.”

Alongside these new additions is the return of the classic Recruitment system. As fans of the franchise will know, this feature gives players a choice of over forty races and jobs to select from, and NIS hinted that a new stat-boosting system will make an appearance that will orbit around revenge. Quiet apt, really, given the title and tone of Alliance of Vengeance.

Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 across North America and Europe in the fall of this year. To gain a gist of what’s in store, you can check out the brief plot synopsis below.

The sixth home console entry to the legendary Disgaea series tells a tale of revenge, and of rebellion. As a new and terrible Overlord named Void Dark seeks to enslave the countless Netherworlds, one young demon has stood to end his reign—Killia. In Disgaea 5, lead Killia and his tenacious army of rebels on their dark and dangerous path to vengeance. Filled with more over-the-top action and hilarious writing than ever before, Disgaea 5’s damage numbers are surely headed for the record books.
