Adding that evocative subtitle was a conscious effort on the developer’s part to emphasis the physical, emotional and mental journey of Senua, Celtic warrior and protagonist in Ninja Theory’s mythic RPG. In Hellblade, NT’s haunted heroine will plot course for the Viking heartland, fending off her trauma and psychosis along the way.

Dominic Matthews, a member of the tight-knit product development team, took to PlayStation Blog to reveal that “it is important for [NT] to portray the physical, emotional, and mental trials of her quest in both the character model and the representation of her reality. An example of this is the voices that Senua hears in the scene. These voices have been recorded binaurally which means that if you listen to them with headphones on they will sound as if they are in the 3D space around you.”

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has been slated for a 2016 release across PlayStation 4 and PC. To whet your appetite, be sure to check out the stunning video below that showcases actress Melina Juergens motion-capturing in real time.
