Overkill Software, the development team behind Payday: The Heist, may not have been working on the Left 4 Dead prequel that was initially rumoured, but their plans regarding a No Mercy crossover have finally been executed.

Released today on Steam, this free DLC for Payday: The Heist includes a brand new mission that tasks your team with stealing blood from the infamous hospital. It also comes with an undead theme, some secret “extra candy” and, for those that own any of the Left 4 Dead games, new zombie masks.

Whilst set prior to the outbreak of the infection, and featuring numerous Easter eggs as well as a cameo by one of the original survivors, it is important to remember that this DLC is not considered canon.

Payday: The Heist has seemingly embraced its comparisons to Left 4 Dead by turning a clear homage into an official crossover. As a fan of both games, I can’t think of anything I would rather have stealing some of my time.
