Peter Molyneux “Would Love To” Make A Fable IV With The Original Lionhead Team

Peter Molyneux may have long since moved on from spearheading the Fable series, but the eccentric game designer would "love to do Fable IV" if the chance to do so ever arose. Speaking to Official Xbox Magazine in a detailed interview concerning the history of Lionhead Studios, Molyneux said "It's crazy that Fable IV isn't beig made. I would love to do Fable IV, and the studio tried to do it. You'd have to get the original team back together though."

Peter Molyneux may have long since moved on from spearheading the Fable series, but the eccentric game designer would “love to do Fable IV” if the chance to do so ever arose. Speaking to Official Xbox Magazine (via GameSpot) in a detailed interview concerning the history of Lionhead Studios, Molyneux said “It’s crazy that Fable IV isn’t beig made. I would love to do Fable IV, and the studio tried to do it. You’d have to get the original team back together though.”

Sadly, the chances of such a thing ever happening are almost nil. Even if one ignores the fact that Molyneux parted ways with Microsoft following the release of Fable: The Journey, the studio he co-founded and led for years closed shop for good earlier this year. Shortly after his departure, Molyneux formed 22 Cans, an indie studio focused on creating unique games.

As of today, the company has produced just three titles. First came Curiosity, a basic mobile game that tasked players with collectively chipping away at a cube to discover the surprise at its core. The player that tapped the final block was rewarded with a share in the profits of its follow-up title: Godus. Although, not everything went according to plan.

As an aside, Molyneux provided some insight into his and Lionhead’s relationship with Microsoft, stating that the software giant was sometimes “appalled” by some of the content created for the Fable series.

“I think it was the sense of humour,” said Molyneux. “You know the British, slightly politically incorrect sense of humour, especially with Fable, where we had prostitutes and same-sex marriage. Microsoft were appalled, you know, they were busily going around trying to rub all the nipples out of all the women just not to offend people.”

The last main entry in the ostensibly British RPG series – Fable III – released six years ago, and while Lionhead no longer exists, Microsoft does still own the rights to the property, so it’s not out of the realms of possibility that a Fable IV could one day come to fruition. With that said, don’t expect it to happen any time soon.
