As expected, the developer saved its best announcement for last in the form of new legendary Pokémon and mascots for each version that Trainers will likely encounter as part of Sword and Shield‘s story. Without further ado, check out the fearsome duo via the gallery below.

What with initial logos for both Switch games being adorned with the silhouette of a wolf-like creature, fans have known for some time, that the one-of-a-kind beasts would be canine in nature, though it’s great to finally see how Game Freak’s artists have adopted the real world animal for its beloved franchise. As standard, which version of the title you opt for will dictate which mythical companion appears in-game. Zacian for Sword; Zamazenta for Shield.

Concerning the pair’s types and attributes, those details are still forthcoming, though the official press release does share the following:

“These are the Legendary Pokémon that will be featured on the packages of Pokémon Sword and Shield. They are shrouded in mystery and are even unknown to those who live in the Galar region.”

Playfully coy choice of words, then, but if the two mutts ultimately end up playing an integral role in Sword and Shield‘s narrative, it’s hardly surprising that Game Freak is choosing to keep further details close to its chest. With E3 just around the corner, however, there’s a chance those secrets will be revealed later this week, but until then, feel free to speculate in the comments below!
