Porting Halo 5: Guardians To PC Wouldn’t Be “The Hardest Thing in the World”

The game's marketing campaign has made that crystal clear over the past few months, but thanks to new comments from series director Frank O'Connor, there's a distinct possibility that a PC port of the first-person shooter could really happen. Whether that's anytime soon, however, is the real question.

When Halo 5: Guardians reaches store shelves this coming week, it’ll only be for Xbox One owners. The game’s marketing campaign has made that crystal clear over the past few months, but thanks to new comments from series director Frank O’Connor, there’s a distinct possibility that a PC port of the first-person shooter could really happen. Whether that’s anytime soon, however, is the real question.

“There is plenty of chance that Halo 5 could appear on the PC,” O’Connor mused during a GamesRadar livestream. “Nothing to announce at this point, but it’s absolutely within the bounds of reason.”

According to O’Connor, the game shares a great deal with PC architecture and thus, a jump to Windows for PC wouldn’t be all that far-fetched.

“We developed the game on an Intel platform. It wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world to move it to PC and take advantage of PC stuff. But nothing to announce today.”

If a PC port happens, it would be the first time in a very long while that a console Halo entry made the jump to PC. Halo 2 was the last series entry to make it to Windows on PC in May of 2007 following a port of the series’ debut, Halo: Combat Evolved, being ported to PCs five years prior. A real-time strategy spinoff, Halo Wars, was also released in 2009 on PC, and a sequel, Halo Wars 2, will release next year.
