Resident Evil 7‘s upcoming DLC, Not A Hero, will star iconic series character Chris Redfield, Capcom has announced via Twitter. Before we go any further, we should make you aware that the rest of this story contains major story spoilers for the survival horror title, so if you’ve yet to see how Ethan Winters’ story ends, you’ll want to stop reading here.

For those of you that have already seen Resident Evil 7‘s narrative through to its conclusion, you’ll no doubt be aware that, upon surviving the horrors of the Baker Mansion and putting ‘poor’ Eveline out of her misery, Ethan is immediately greeted by a group of soldiers who have seemingly come to rescue him. One of these individuals removes their helmet and gives the name ‘Redfield,’ which, of course, we now know to be none other than Chris himself.

Capcom’s confirmation might seem like it’s stating the obvious, but before now, fans have been skeptical about whether this individual was Chris, an imposter or simply a relative of the Redfield family. This iteration of the character, after all, looks nothing like his previous incarnations, but given that Resident Evil 7 is a reboot, of sorts, it’s not entirely without logic that Capcom would give the former S.T.A.R.S. member a visual makeover.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how the developer brings past cast members back into the fold with Resident Evil 7, and I can only hope Not A Hero elaborates more on how Ethan’s story fits into the series’ wider lore.
