Finnish-based developer Housemarque is certainly keeping busy. As the creative minds behind fellow PS4 exclusive Resogun, not to mention the gleefully addicting Super Stardust series, Housemarque has established itself as one of Sony’s bankable studios, and we’re holding out hope that MatterFall can add another feather to the studio’s prestigious cap.

MatterFall follows an unexpected hero fighting for survival on a ravished sci-fi world infected by a mysterious and deadly alien material known only as “Smart Matter.” Using agility and powerful weaponry you must explore this new world and utilize your own control over the Smart Matter to uncover the mystery of this new threat and save the day before it threatens the very existence of the human race.

Retaining the sci-fi aesthetic of previous games released by the studio, today’s trailer was but a tease of what to expect; alien worlds coupled with physics-defying weaponry and yeah, this is a new IP that reads as a classic Housemarque product.

MatterFall is expected to launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 in the latter stages of 2016, or early 2017 to make room for Alienation.
