Crystal Dynamics took to the stage at Gamescom today to confirm that Rise of the Tomb Raider — the sequel to 2013’s critically-acclaimed reboot — will launch exclusively for Xbox platforms in 2015.

And though early reports suggested that this partnership between the studio and Microsoft was merely a timed exclusive, Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, confirmed that the anticipated title will indeed remain on Xbox systems.

Taking to the company’s website, here’s what Gallagher had to say about the announcement:

“This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.”

Initially revealed during E3 a couple of months back, Rise of the Tomb Raider will once again orbit around Lara Croft following her traumatising ordeal with the Endurance on the island of Yamatai. Not much is known in terms of plot, but from the debut trailer, it’s clear our weathered heroine is dealing with psychological issues after her run in with Himiko from the first game.

Rise of the Tomb Raider has now been confirmed as an Xbox exclusive and will presumably launch across Xbox One and Xbox 360 in 2015.
