Shantae And The Pirate’s Curse Receives All New Gameplay Trailer

It appears that Shantae is shaping up to be the most badass chick to whip her hair back and forth since Sindel from the Mortal Kombat series (bet you weren't expecting a Willow Smith reference). Seemingly Aladdin-inspired art style coupled with quirky characters and anachronistic tanks all combine to make for one bizarre and hilarious cross-section of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS platformer Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.

It appears that Shantae is shaping up to be the most badass chick to whip her hair back and forth since Sindel from the Mortal Kombat series (I bet you were expecting a Willow Smith reference). Aladdin-inspired art stylings coupled with quirky characters and anachronistic tanks all combine to make for one bizarre and hilarious cross-section of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS platformer, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse.

The half-genie, recently rendered powerless, embarks on a new quest in this game. Squaring off against Risky’s former minions, events from the last game that caused her to lose her powers have now transferred those same powers to her enemies, as Shantae must reclaim the lost shards that contain her former powers. Of course, she can’t go at it alone, so who else but Risky has to team up with Shantae, as his former crew is plotting to resurrect the Pirate Master, which would spell doom for Sequin Land. Without the assistance of her powers, Shantae has to take the old-fashioned approach to getting tougher: appropriating pirate gear.

In a first for the series, Shantae will be without her magic, which will force her to seek out daggers, cannons and grappling hooks, among other weapons, to get around the dangerous and often perilous Sequin Land. The gameplay harkens back to such awesome series as Metroid and Castlevania, and the way those titles made players utilize new abilities to open up their worlds and gain access to secret areas.

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is looking to pick up where the last game left off and give gamers an added challenge in the form of its newly-powerless protagonist, a half-genie who must suddenly learn how to be a pirate. The parachute pants-rocking former enchantress will be venturing across 3DS screens this winter in her brand-new title.
