Sonic the Hedgehog will be racing back to airwaves in 2014 with a new show on Cartoon Network. Tentatively titled Sonic Boom, the show will also air on the French children’s networks Canal J and Gulli in Europe.

Sonic Boom is being produced by Sega of America and French animation company Genao Productions. Similar to popular Cartoon Network shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show, Boom will consist of fifty-two, eleven minute episodes. As one would expect, the show focuses on Sonic and friends foiling the nefarious schemes of one Dr. Eggman, aka Dr. Robotnik.

No footage of the show has been released yet, but we do have the teaser image posted above. From what we can tell, Sonic Boom will focus on Tails, Sonic, Amy and what appears to be Knuckles, if he decided to start cultivating mass. No word yet on whether or not the likes of Espio the Chameleon, Big the Cat, or any of the other characters that no one really cares about will make an appearance.

Sonic Boom is set to be Sonic’s fifth television series within the past twenty years. That seems like an excessive amount for a character, who let’s face it guys, is not as popular as he used to be. In fact, the only cartoon series I remember featuring the character would be the early 90’s Saturday morning show, Sonic the Hedgehog. I didn’t even know of the existence of shows such as Sonic Underground or Sonic X until I was looking for information on Sonic Boom. Although to be fair, I don’t think either of those shows produced something as beautiful as this:

Sonic Boom will debut in 2014 on Cartoon Network. For gamers looking to get their Sonic fix in, the next title in the franchise, Sonic Lost World, will release on the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS on October 29th.
