Detroit NFL player was robbed at a Florida Airbnb, so he allegedly responded by kidnapping and assaulting the people he believed were responsible

“There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations.”

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is currently behind bars, facing serious felony charges after investigators accused him of masterminding a violent kidnapping and robbery plot in Florida. The 23-year-old athlete surrendered to a warrant at the Orient Road jail in Tampa on Wednesday, June 24. According to Court TV, the legal trouble stems from an incident that took place in early February at an Airbnb rental in Largo, Florida.

Prosecutors allege that after Arnold discovered personal items, including designer bags, watches, jewelry, a cell phone, and approximately $100,000 in cash were missing from the property, he decided to take matters into his own hands. While Arnold reported the loss to local police on February 3, claiming a total of $245,000 in property was taken, investigators state there is no evidence linking the victims to the initial theft.

The Florida state attorney’s office claims that Arnold coordinated a plan to lure his personal driver and two other associates to an apartment to question them about the missing property. According to the NY Post, court documents allege that he ordered two women to lure them with the promise of “sexual relations.” The article details that once they arrived, the men were confronted by Arnold’s co-defendants, who were armed with guns, and beaten.

The men were allegedly beaten and questioned about the stolen property

Although Arnold was not physically present at the apartment, authorities claim he was actively involved by giving directions via text messages. Per the NY Post, one of the women co-defendants streamed the scene for him to watch.

For about an hour, the victims were reportedly held against their will, beaten, and threatened. Prosecutors stated that one co-defendant allegedly placed a gun in a victim’s mouth, “putting all three victims in fear for their death, while forcibly holding them…against their will.” The victims were eventually escorted out of the apartment at gunpoint.

The fallout from this incident has been extensive. NFL.com reported that Arnold is facing eight total felony charges, consisting of four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. These charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.

Following the arrest, the site reported that Suzy Lopez, the state attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, noted in a statement that “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation. We will continue to pursue justice for the three victims by holding everyone accountable for their roles in this crime.”

The Detroit Free Press detailed that several other individuals have been implicated in the case. Boakai Hilton, whom Arnold previously identified as a childhood friend, is facing multiple counts of robbery and kidnapping. Additionally, Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo have already entered plea deals. Randazzo received a sentence of four years in prison followed by six years of probation, and both have agreed to testify for the state as part of their plea agreements.

According to the outlet, Arnold’s legal team has maintained his innocence throughout the process. Denise White, the CEO of EAG Sports Management, stated, “Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence.:

“There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,” she added. “Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.”

The Detroit Free Press noted that the Detroit Lions organization and the NFL have both issued brief statements acknowledging the situation, but refused to comment due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Per NFL.com, Arnold was the 24th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and has played 24 games for the Lions across two seasons. He reportedly spent much of his recent time recovering from December shoulder surgery and was competing to secure his starting role during the team’s minicamp.

During a brief hearing on Wednesday, Arnold reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors have filed a motion to hold him without bond until his trial, arguing that he remains a danger to the community. A pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for June 29 to determine if he will remain in custody.

There have been a few NFL-related scandals in the past year. Last year, a former NFL player was extradited from the Middle East for attempted murder, where, after the event, he was recorded saying, “I blacked out,” in an interview. Earlier this year, a former Alabama football player was arrested for impersonating NFL players in a $20M fraud scheme.
