Developer Electronic Arts has announced that the open beta for Star Wars Battlefront will be available from October 8th through October 12th on its given platforms of Xbox One, PC, and Playstation 4, and feature three of the game’s core modes across three planets: Walker Assault on Hoth, Survival Mission on Tatooine and Drop Zone on Battlefront‘s first-ever interpretation of the Star Wars Expanded Universe planet of Sullust.
Walker Assault sees you fighting as a Rebel or an Imperial as they help or hinder the onslaught of AT-AT walkers in their march towards Echo Base. Battlefront‘s Drop Zone, meanwhile, sees players competing in a frantic 8v8 multiplayer match to reclaim and control a barrage of incoming escape pods in a strategic game of king of the hill on Sullust’s volcanic plateaus.
Lastly, Survival Mission lets you play alone or with an ally via co-op or split-screen as you mow down hordes of Imperial troops from AT-STs, TIE fighters, and stormtroopers.
EA has assured us that there won’t be any need to register for the beta, which will be available for everyone at launch so long as they have an EA account. The game’s companion app will be playable through EA’s site on the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer 11.
The beta’s start and end time will reportedly vary by platform and region as will its download size. EA says that Battlefront‘s beta will be “around 7GB” on consoles and “close to 11 GB” on PC. Level caps will be set at level five though players will still be able to unlock items past that. Progress, however, will not carry over to the main game.
Star Wars Battlefront will drop players on the galactic battlefield when it releases on November 17th.
