Here’s How Combat Will Work In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Gameplay footage of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is still forthcoming, though new details released by Respawn and EA suggest it'll adopt a familiar formula.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

This year’s Star Wars Celebration event in Chicago has wrapped once more, leaving fans of that galaxy far, far away reeling in lieu of several huge announcements. Disney, of course, kicked off the weekend-long event with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘s long-awaited debut trailer, though it had no intention of letting the hype peak there. EA, continuing its publishing deal with Disney, following 2017’s controversial Star Wars Battlefront II, finally gave the world its first look at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Developed by Titanfall and Apex Legends creator Respawn Entertainment, the strictly single-player title revealed itself by way of a minutes-long cinematic trailer, in turn putting a face to the Padawan players will be in control of come launch. As predicted, however, gameplay was entirely absent from the panel, a reveal no doubt being held back for this year’s E3. That being the case, we’ve still got a few months to wait until all the juicy details are dropped, but EA has provided a series of official descriptions of how Jedi: Fallen Order will play on the title’s website in the meantime.

“Hone lightsaber combat forms to refine striking, blocking and dodging your enemies,” reads the official blurb, adding that players will use “your Jedi weapon and the Force to take on any challenge.” Given the subject matter, Respawn’s mixing of the melee and mystical arts is a given; it’s the former statement that’s got tongues wagging furiously. After all, prior to its official announcement, a particularly comprehensive leak concerning Jedi: Fallen Order‘s combat gameplay surfaced online.

In it, the whistleblower stipulated that core combat featured in-game would be inspired by FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series and the above certainly appears to corroborate that claim. Whether that means Jedi: Fallen Order will also adopt a similar difficulty curve remains to be seen, but it’ll certainly be interesting to watch how things develop from here.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launches on November 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and you can see here for every pre-order bonus.
