Fans of the pizza-loving heroes in a half shell can rejoice: There appears to be a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the way. The Australian Classification Board has listed a new game titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan on their database, which received a certificate of M yesterday. This is the second sighting of the game on such a site, with Gematsu finding a posting on a Brazilian classification site earlier in the month, listing the game as being available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
Now, you may be thinking that this isn’t that big of a deal; there have been many TMNT games before, with the latest being released only last year as a tie-in to the 2014 film. While some of the numerous video game outings for the sewer-dwelling crime fighters have been good, the majority of them are terrible (just look at 2013’s Out Of The Shadows).
However, you may be interested to hear that the site lists Mutants In Manhattan‘s developers as Platinum Games, a company known for creating frantic hack and slash action games such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, as well as the critically adored Bayonetta and its even more critically adored sequel.
Furthermore, the game is set to be published by Activision. Mutants In Manhattan wouldn’t be the first time that Platinum and the publishing giant have teamed up to reinvigorate the world of beloved eighties cartoons. In October, Platinum brought out Transformers: Devastation, which was praised for capturing the spirit of the popular cartoon show (instead of the Michael Bay cinematic universe), featuring a lot of the original voice actors reprising their roles. Let’s hope that they follow a similar path with this new Turtles adventure, producing similar feelings of nunchuck-wielding nostalgia for fans through classic arcade-style gameplay.
