Though an untimely PlayStation Network pre-order page may have stolen the studio’s thunder, The Astronauts has confirmed that its supernatural adventure title The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will make its way onto PlayStation 4 next week, Wednesday, July 15.

Crucially, the game’s transition onto console meant it was rebuilt to suit Sony’s current-gen hardware, rather than existing as a last-minute port. Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Ethan Carter can be pre-ordered on PS Store for £13.94, with other prices to be revealed at a later date.

Released on PC last year to critical acclaim, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter sees players explore the ambient, wholly mysterious Red Creek Valley in the hope of solving a murder mystery. Combat is practically non-existent, and you’ll spend the vast majority of your playtime unearthing new clues and secrets that may or may not have a bearing on the core story.

In our review of the initial release, we praised The Astronaut’s title for its engaging storytelling, character-building and the beautiful, autumnal setting in which the game takes place.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter presents an engaging narrative that takes great, ambitious leaps for storytelling in our industry. Choosing to focus on atmosphere and the personalities of every character fuels the game’s momentum by carefully fusing every element into a cohesive and indeed interactive narrative.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will loom onto PlayStation 4 on Wednesday, July 15.
