Todd McFarlane Teases Big Things For Spawn In Mortal Kombat 11

The cast of Mortal Kombat 11 is due to expand with several new additions before the year is out. All in all, six DLC characters are in-line to join the fray, the first of which just recently arrived. Longtime series villain Shang Tsung has gone down a treat with fans since his debut, though the soul-stealing sorcerer is but one of two further veterans scheduled for release. Nightwolf and Sindel round out one half of the game's Kombat Pass, with the remaining three spots going to guest characters.

For a series with such a long, storied past with cameo characters and the like, it comes as no surprise that Mortal Kombat 11 intends to continue said tradition. The blood-soaked and merciless nature of MK, however, demands a certain type of combatant. This is no place for the weak-willed, which is why, finally, after years of fan requests, a certain someone is headed to Outworld in the near future.

We are, of course, speaking of Spawn. The cult antihero is first-in-line to fill one of those aforementioned guest slots but can he live up to the hype? According to creator Todd McFarlane, it appears that the answer to such a question is a resounding yes.

Speaking to IGN during last weekend’s Comic-Con, McFarlane describes how he had but one key condition he wanted NetherRealm to satisfy. Rather than pander primarily to Spawn fans, McFarlane says he wanted those not familiar with the character to immediately consider him part of the series’ universe. Existing fans would, of course, likely adore NetherRealm’s efforts regardless of the final product; the uninitiated are ultimately who need to be won over.

It’s good news, then, that the developer clearly appears to have met McFarlane’s request, given his outwardly positive comments. You can rest assured, too, that Spawn will be pulling no punches when the times comes to greet Mortal Kombat 11 fans.
