Respawn’s all-but-announced Titanfall 2 has reared its mechanical head once again today, with toy manufacturer MacFarlane claiming that the futuristic sequel will launch later in 2016.

That’s a lot sooner than many expect, particularly when you consider that publisher EA recently narrowed the game’s release window to between April of 2016 and March 31, 2017 during a fiscal report.

Designing toys based on Respawn’s IP, MacFarlane rolled out a press release that noted Titanfall 2 would arrive in “winter 2016,” with the remainder of the copy reading as so: “McFarlane [Toys] was created so I could make cool stuff just like this. Without saying too much about the new game… You’re not going to believe where we can take this.”

In light of these claims, EA cooled talk of Titanfall 2 making it out the gate before the year’s end, stating that “MacFarlane Toys will be releasing toys inspired by Titanfall in Winter of 2016. We have yet to provide a release date for the next Titanfall experience from Respawn.”

What we do know is that Respawn is implementing a single-player campaign into the anticipated follow-up, with all signs pointing to an official unveiling during the company’s new EA Play event during the all-important E3 period. One way or another, we’ll keep you posted.

Titanfall 2 remains without a release date for now, but do you believe the studio’s sequel will land in 2016 or 2017?
