Avalanche Studios confirmed the due date through an appropriately bombastic new gameplay trailer which, spoilers, contains enough explosions to keep Michael Bay up at night. Setting out to “redefine the open world genre,” the developer is looking to take the foundations of the Just Cause series – free-roaming gameplay and ostentatious set pieces – and expand it across a vast Mediterranean setting. As you can see in the above trailer, though, there’s trouble in paradise.

Rico’s latest outing will see our protagonist throw caution to the wind and go toe-to-toe with General Di Ravello, a totalitarian dictator who rules over the Just Cause 3 peninsula with an iron fist. If Avalanche delivers on its premise, fans can look forward to an intoxicating adventure at year’s end, with players having the ability to shoot, loot and grapple across the threequel’s colossal, 400 square mile map.  It’s a land mass where the laws of physics have no bearing, apparently, and we can’t wait to see the third numerical entry in action later this year.

Set the world on fire when Just Cause 3 skydives onto consoles and PC on December 1. For now, be sure to let us know your ealry impressions of Rico Rodriguez’s Mediterranean adventure in the comments below.
