7) Black Cauldron
Speaking of dark Disney movies, who remembers 1985’s The Black Cauldron? Back then, the House of Mouse had moved away from fairy tales – which led them to make this Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy quest film.
If you saw it as a child, it might still be imprinted onto your subconscious, as the film featured some of the scariest Disney imagery since their early days – including John Hurt voicing the terrifying skeletal Horned King.
The Black Cauldron is also generally regarded as a lesser adaptation of Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain novels. A new version could more faithfully bring his ideas to the screen. Alternatively, Disney could also do a sequel and even get John Hurt back on board.
