5) Bedknobs And Broomsticks
2018 will see the release of Mary Poppins Returns, a (very) belated sequel to the 1964 family favourite with Emily Blunt starring as the practically-perfect nanny. If that goes well, Disney may well look to sequelize other classics. And, if they do, the first one they should turn to is Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
Very much in a similar style to Poppins, Bedknobs may owe a debt to that more famous film but it is also hugely charming in its own right. Set in WWII, it sees a bunch of kids sent to live with a trainee witch who has a magical bed that can travel to animated lands.
A Bedknobs sequel would easily fit into Disney’s newly-found niche for movies that combine a quaint, old-fashioned story with cutting-edge technology – for instance, The Jungle Book or The BFG.
