5) Batman Unchained
Although we’re all agreed that ending the 1990s Batman franchise with Batman & Robin was a good idea, it’s intriguing to think what the mooted third movie from Joel Schumacher would have consisted of. While fans might know the proposed film as Batman Triumphant, it has recently come to light that it would actually have been called Batman Unchained.
Funnily enough, just as Batman Begins would do several years later, Unchained would have featured the Scarecrow, a role which was offered to Nicolas Cage. The movie would have also have featured Harley Quinn, as played by Courtney Love.
Here, Harley was the Joker’s daughter out for revenge against Batman. In what would have been a mouth-watering moment for fans, Schumacher hoped to get every previous villain – including Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer – back for the climax where Batman hallucinates due to Scarecrow’s fear gas.
Given how the previous film turned out it seems a tad unlikely but, who knows, Batman Unchained could have rescued Schumacher’s take on Batman…
