A head-turning legacy horror sequel could easily result in audiences fainting and vomiting in theaters

Get the barf bags ready.

Nearly 50 years ago, 1973’s The Exorcist etched its significance in horror movie history after it absolutely scrambled moviegoers’ cerebrums and resulted in a mass collection of film fanatics fainting and vomiting in theaters. The hysteria has notably been well documented over the last five decades, which has even begun the discussions of David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist: Believer causing the exact same reaction for audiences around the world.

In a recent article from TheWrap, it was reported that the minuscule footage from Blumhouse’s upcoming legacy sequel absolutely terrified audiences at CinemaCon yesterday. And considering the film is rumored to boast a budget of around $18 million, then it certainly comes as no surprise that visual effects and CGI forthcomings are in motion to help deliver a spine-tingling cinematic experience.

Of course, when The Exorcist horrified a nation and caused worldwide stress, it occurred during a period in time when Christianity and religion as a whole were at the forefront of society. And, let’s face it, the visions of a 12-year-old girl turning her head completely around and vomiting on priests are enough to scare the heck out of anybody. To catch a brief glimpse of these reactions back in the ‘70s, you can check out the post for yourself down below.

Then again, placing it on the same level of hype and success as its predecessor is a big achievement to grasp. Combined with the fact that Blumhouse has a tall order of upcoming projects that might have taken some money away from the horror sequel, it certainly begs the question of just how influential the film will be.

The Exorcist: Believer is set to haunt theaters on Oct. 13.
