A nerve-shredding psychological horror narrowly avoids being burned at the streaming stake

Something witchy this way comes.

“Folk horror” and “elevated horror” are two of the genre’s most popular buzzwords at the moment, but plenty of filmmakers responsible for the projects that end up getting tarred with the brush aren’t too fond of the term. We’ve got no idea how director Charlotte Colbert feels on the matter, but She Will certainly ticks both boxes.

Alice Krige delivers a knockout performance as Veronica Ghent, a fading movie star who retreats to the isolated wilderness of Scotland following a double mastectomy, with only her nurse for company. Ruminating on the meaning of life and her place in the vast realms of existence, things take a turn for the haunting when it transpires her remote hideout is on the very same ground where witches had been burned at the stake several hundred years previously.

Forging a bond with her medical caregiver that grows increasingly unsettling as time goes on, Veronica finds herself imbued by a newfound power both figurative and literal as the earth soaked in the ashes of supernatural deeds leads her down a path of revenge. Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a strong 85 percent approval rating, She Will has now parlayed that critical acclaim into streaming success, marking another hit for the impenetrable horror circuit.

Per FlixPatrol, the hauntingly atmospheric tale has become one of the most-watched features on ViaPlay, and it’s one that any self-respective fan of psychological chillers and nerve-shredding nightmares should be seeking out given the slow-burning dread and lurching unease seeping out of every frame.
