A new ‘Little Mermaid’ clip shows whether or not Prince Eric gets to ‘Kiss the Girl’

It always takes a little time to build up to the first kiss!

Some Disney scenes are so iconic that the heart of the Mouse House might not be as magical without them. There’s the delightful library moment in Beauty and the Beast, the “For The First Time In Forever” sing-along in Frozen, and the “Kiss the Girl” moment in Disney’s The Little Mermaid

So when news broke that a live-action retelling of Ariel’s fairytale was on the horizon, fans immediately dreamed of that moment, with Eric and Ariel in the boat and everyone wondering if he was going to kiss the girl. The song is one of the best in Disney’s catalog, and the moment was always one that gave audiences everywhere butterflies. It made you think back to your own first kiss or look forward to that moment if it hadn’t happened.

A newly released peek at the live-action gives fans their first real look at the chemistry between Ariel and Prince Eric, and it’s the moment we’ve been waiting for. Do the star-crossed lovers share their first kiss? By the looks of the scene, it’s going to take a little work to get them to the big moment.

The trailers so far have been more about the magic of the undersea realm and short peeks at the characters we’ll soon love — even though the jury is still out on Flounder – and Ursula‘s makeup. So getting this romantic look at Ariel and Eric was a real treat for fans.

The clip of Ariel and Eric being playful, existing in that first true-love feeling, and the bright lights surrounding them in the trees and the water is just beautiful. As Scuttle, Sebastian, and Flounder all cheer Eric on in his big moment, we’re also lucky enough to see more pieces of their personalities bloom too. Ariel looks a little lost in love as she touches Eric’s cheek, and if that moment didn’t make you feel all the feelings, check your pulse.

The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 25th, and we can’t wait to see if Eric ever does get to kiss the girl — the third time is a charm, right?
