A new ‘Little Mermaid’ preview offers a saucy first glimpse of Ursula manipulating Ariel

Life really is full of tough choices!

A new glimpse into The Little Mermaid just dropped, and Ariel is sure about to become one poor unfortunate soul. In the one-minute-long teaser, Melissa McCarthy anthropomorphizes the most vicious octopus at sea and shows the eight-legged spectacle effectively manipulating the innocent princess mermaid.

As perhaps the most extensive glimpse into the sea wonders that we have gotten so far, this new preview not only shows Ariel, Flounder, and Scuttle at the height of their undersea shenanigans but McCarthy’s interpretation of Ursula in all her glory. Capable of sending shivers down everyone’s spine, Ursula talks in an all-too-familiar manipulative tone with Ariel (Halle Bailey), which as we all know, will prove to be fruitful in favor of the antagonist.

Plans for a remake of 1989’s The Little Mermaid were confirmed in May 2016, and since then, the uproar regarding Walt Disney Studio’s upcoming live-action has not ceased. Be it the constant criticism due to Bailey’s casting as Ariel, or the simple fact that the live-action exists, disapproving commentary ahead of release has been clamoring all across social media. Despite all negativity surrounding the film, it will undoubtedly make its dent in the Disney universe – even if it is due to its length.

Regardless of anyone’s gripes surrounding The Little Mermaid, one thing is for certain: Ursula could not have been better cast for the role. Whether it is her perfectly manipulative aura resulting from her years of experience in Hollywood, or the perfect hint of eccentricity, McCarthy will certainly put a stop to all of the negative comments surrounding this fantasy children’s tale. In our opinion, if there is one legitimate objection to the film, it should be how Flounder will likely be in the race to become the scariest creature in the movie.

The Little Mermaid will hit theatres on May 26.
