After the box office disappointment of ‘Indiana Jones 5,’ fans are already planning its Disney Plus spinoff

Bringing a polarizing character back in a spinoff is an interesting prospect.

After it was unsurprisingly reported that Disney had lost around $900 million over its last several projects, it was clear that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny wasn’t going to be the ship that completely shifted the tide. In fact, the Harrison Ford vehicle hasn’t exactly received the reception and secured the box office spot that it possibly could have. As a result, franchise die-hards are now heading back to the drawing board to plan out a possible Disney Plus spinoff.

Despite Indiana Jones 5 showing signs of significant box office improvement, passionate users over on Reddit have already convinced themselves to shift toward hoping for a potential Disney Plus spinoff — which would focus on notable franchise characters Short Round (Ke Huy Quan) and Wombat/Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge). Short Round, of course, served as Indy’s young sidekick while Wombat serves as Indy’s goddaughter.

And while a large collection of Indy fanatics seemed in favor of the idea, a strong portion of other commenters insisted that the franchise should be put to rest and the story simply shouldn’t continue — no matter which character(s) a possible spinoff would focus on. Just as the reviews have seemed split down the middle, it’s now apparent that the possibility of any Indiana Jones spinoff ideas has split the community in half.

With Waller-Bridge’s character also splitting opinions directly down the middle, perhaps that’s a tell-tale sign that a potential Disney Plus spinoff won’t happen. Either way, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is out in theaters now.
