It would be an absolute understatement to say that production powerhouse Disney is desperate for a sure-fire blockbuster hit to emerge from the shadows. As of late, the House of Mouse has drastically suffered after both Elemental and The Little Mermaid failed to accumulate earnings as was initially expected. But it turns out Disney’s last eight studio projects have reportedly cost the company $900 million — signifying that Disney is undoubtedly clinging on to the hope that The Marvels will become a rapid success.
The discussion of Disney’s losses was recently shared via World of Reel and kickstarted by @VALLIANT RENEGADE — a box-office analyst/YouTuber who has kept a close watch on Disney’s last seven studio projects. The eighth project relates to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which has yet to officially release in theaters — although its early box-office projects are noticeably subpar. In doing so, the analyst identified that Disney’s latest projects — which include Marvel releases Thor 4, Black Panther 2, and Ant-Man 3 — have actually resulted in a loss of money for the Mouse House.
With all that being said, it’s undoubtedly clever that Disney absolutely needs The Marvels to become a rocketing success — especially when you consider the fact that the MCU is a dominant force in the realm of Disney cinema. And as the most anticipated Marvel movie happening for the remainder of this year, it’s quite obvious that the studio is relying on Brie Larson and company to shine as a beacon of light for the dark days of Disney’s latest releases.
The Marvels officially arrives in theaters this Nov. 10.
