Browncoats, take heed. Firefly and Con Man star Alan Tudyk has put himself forward for the role of Blue Beetle in Warner Bros. and DC’s live-action rendition of Booster Gold/Blue Beetle – though he’ll only consider the role on one condition.

Now that the buddy cop-styled movie is incubating in the early stages of development, Tudyk has been ruminating on the notion of donning the superhero guise for the big screen. But as ComicBook.com learned during the recent New York Comic Con, the actor would only commit to the project if it meant re-teaming with his old partner-in-space-crime, Nathan Fillion.

It’s a match made in nerd heaven, and the one that was most frequently suggested via Twitter and the like when Fillion initially expressed interest in portraying Booster Gold back at Wizard World Comic Con Chicago.

Here’s Tudyk’s two cents on the potential collaboration:

“Well, that’s great. If it’s working with Nathan, I’m in. Also, being a bug for me? I’d like that. Roly-poly is nice. I’d like to be one of them. That’s what we called them back in Texas, but they’re almost a beetle.”

Given the pair’s natural on-screen chemistry, drafting in Fillion and Tudyk for Booster Gold/Blue Beetle would appear a no-brainer. Of course, there would be some contractual and logistical kinks to iron out before it became official, but it would certainly ensure that the buddy cop feature could offer a nice comedic respite from the mythic and po-faced nature of the DC Expanded Universe.

Booster Gold/Blue Beetle is in the very early stages of development at Warner, though we imagine if either Fillion or Tudyk – or both! – sign along the dotted line, the live-action feature will quickly become a priority at the studio.
