Deadline is reporting that Alexander Ludwig, best known for his role as Cato in The Hunger Games, has now joined Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor as a Navy SEAL named Shane Patton.

Based on the novel by Marcus Luttrell, the film will see the actor playing a soldier on a “covert mission that goes wrong.” Joining him will be a solid cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Ben Foster, Emile Hirsch and Eric Bana.

For those that don’t know, Luttrell’s novel is actually based on a true story, which recounts how his Navy SEAL team survived an ambush by the Taliban while on a covert mission.

Personally, I think this is a perfect role for Ludwig, who showed a great sense of physicality and combat in The Hunger Games. I thought he did really well in the role of Cato and playing a Navy SEAL seems like a great part for the young actor, who is slowly building up his profile.

Though Alexander Ludwig may not be as big a name as some of his co-stars in Lone Survivor, I do think he’ll make an excellent addition to the cast and hopefully, the role will bring some additional exposure to the up and coming actor.

What do you think? Do you want to see Alexander Ludwig play a Navy SEAL?
