All of those ringing celebrity endorsements have ‘The Flash’ heading for one of the DCU’s biggest-ever box office debuts

It's us mere mortals that have to pay for tickets, though.

If you hear the same thing over and over again, then circumstances would seemingly dictate that there’s at least a shred of truth to the matter. With that in mind, it’s reasonable to expect The Flash to be very, very good, if not outright excellent.

After all, the incoming DCU blockbuster has been subjected to the highest praise by James Gunn, Stephen King, and Tom Cruise to name but three, a trio of high-profile figures who don’t have a great deal in common. And yet, they’ve been united by their adoration for Andy Muschietti’s long-awaited multiversal epic, but will that buzz be reflected in the ticket sales?

According to the latest projections from Box Office Pro, the answer seems to be a resounding yes. At the moment, The Flash is heading for a domestic opening weekend between $115 million and $140 million, which would be good enough to make it one of the top-earning debuts of any DCU movie should it even end up on the lowest end of those predictions.

The benchmark was set by Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which reigns supreme with a mammoth $166 million haul. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is in second place with $133 million, and then it’s Man of Steel up next on $114 million. It says a lot about the DCU’s trajectory that its first three installments remain its biggest earners, but there’s a distinct possibility The Flash could reach as high as second on the all-time list.

That’s a win whatever way you want to cut it, especially when DC is still reeling from the embarrassment left behind by Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
