After shedding new light on X-Men: Dark Phoenix and its outgoing South Korean singer/actor Rain, Omega Underground has now shifted the spotlight over to another of Fox’s 2018 tentpoles, Deadpool 2.
Specifically, the outlet has uncovered a handful of audition tapes for David Leitch’s sequel – audition tapes that point to the addition of a brand new mutant. Up until now, Deadpool 2 has welcomed Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin on board to play Domino and Cable, respectively, but it seems the 2018 follow-up still has room in its ranks for one last-minute casting coup before filming kicks off in Vancouver later this month.
Per Omega Underground, it’s now been claimed that Killian Scott and British actor Charley Palmer Rothwell are both testing for the role of “Mike.” Exactly who “Mike” is and how he factors into Deadpool 2 is up for question, but it’s worth keeping in mind that Black Tom has purportedly been earmarked for Jack Kesy.
The audition tape was first uncovered by Omega Underground, and has since been pulled at the request of 20th Century Fox. Such a move lends credence to OU’s findings checking out, but we’ll keep you posted as more information comes to light. Meanwhile, we’ve plucked a small extract from OU’s transcription that all but confirms Mike to be a mutant. Which mutant, exactly? We’ll leave that one to you.

Among those characters set to return in time for Deadpool 2 are Weasel (T.J. Miller), Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus, Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) and Deadpool’s go-to chauffeur, Dopinder (Karan Soni).
Deadpool 2 has been slated for release on June 1st, 2018, and David Leitch’s much-anticipated sequel currently finds itself between Josh Boone’s New Mutants (April 13th) and X-Men: Dark Phoneix (November 2nd, 2018). Out of the three, we’d wager that the Merc With a Mouth’s sophomore outing is more likely to achieve box office success, but it’ll be interesting to see how Fox’s mutant trifecta fares nevertheless.
