Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man won’t make its way to theaters until July 3, 2012. But that hasn’t stopped the studio from already planning a sequel. According to Deadline, the studio has already set a May 2, 2014 release date for the currently titled Amazing Spider-Man 2.
“I think it speaks volumes about our confidence in what we are seeing on the new film and our desire to move quickly on the next installment,” said a Sony exec.
The film must be pretty good if the studio has already set a release date for the sequel. The Amazing Spider-Man is still a long ways away and is still filming. For Sony to give the go ahead on the sequel this early means that they likely have a very good film on their hands. Hopefully audiences feel the same way.
The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Martin Sheen as Ben Parker, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Connors and Sally Field as May Parker. The reboot is being helmed by (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb.
