It was confirmed a while back that Amber Heard had been cast as Mera in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, but a new report suggests Warner Bros. may be thinking about recasting the role for reasons relating the the actress’ recent domestic troubles with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
TMZ reports that Heard was told not to go to London for a costume fitting by producers because she wasn’t “camera ready.” Apparently, they feel that all the stress of her legal battles with Depp – not to mention the intense and invasive media scrutiny – has caused the Machete Kills star to drop 20 pounds, and she is now too thin to play the character. Plus, there’s a very good chance Heard is going to be too caught up in her upcoming court case to even find the time (not to mention the energy) to shoot the picture.
TMZ is not exactly known for their irreproachable journalism, but this does make a certain amount of sense at the end of the day. Could we see the role of Mera recast? Apparently the costume fitting has been rescheduled, but we’ll just have to wait and see how this all shakes out.
Justice League is currently shooting in London, and the film will hit theatres on November 17, 2017.
