An erotic murder mystery thriller engages in an illicit affair with the Netflix Top 10 in 73 countries

Three bulletproof genres collide for maximum effect.

Netflix might be a veritable buffet of content, with the streaming service offering new film and television titles set in every genre under the sun on a weekly basis, but it’s hard to deny that mystery thrillers and erotic tales are among the two strongest performers. Put the two together for a single movie, drop it onto the library, and what happens? That’s right; Faithfully Yours has become an instant sensation.

Per FlixPatrol, the Dutch movie directed by André van Duren has debuted as the second most-watched feature on the platform’s worldwide watch-list, having absconded onto the Top 10 in a mighty 73 countries around the world. Only Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother is out in front, which is all the more remarkable when you consider Faithfully Yours was made for a fraction of the cost and isn’t even technically a Netflix original, having released in local theaters in December of last year.

Bracha van Doesburgh and Elise Schaap star as best friends Bodil and Isabel, both of whom appear to be happily married from the outside looking in. However, they’ve developed a nefarious scheme that sees them use the other as an alibi when indulging in illicit extramarital affairs, a ploy that inevitably comes crashing down around them when the latter is found dead after they were supposed to have been together.

Needless to say, combining two such eminently watchable forms of cinema together and then dropping a murder into the mix has reaped major rewards for Netflix, even if it does underline the predictable habits of the customer base.
