An irreverent Netflix original proves it’s better late than never by unwrapping a Top 10 spot in 51 countries

We're not sure why it's one of the biggest movies on Netflix, but it is.

Every year without fail, the most-watched charts on every major streaming service become swamped with festive movies designed to capitalize on the season of goodwill. Inevitably, almost all of them find plenty of eyeballs, but Netflix’s The Price of Family has decided to wait until the first day of February to suddenly become one of the platform’s biggest hits.

Per FlixPatrol, the irreverent family comedy has been biding its time and waiting for the moment to strike, which it’s done so in fairly spectacular fashion by becoming one of the 10 top-viewed features in 51 countries around the world, which is good enough to see it rank as the third-biggest hit on Netflix as we speak.

That puts it the same stratosphere as star-studded comedy You People, sci-fi blockbuster JUNG_E, Rian Johnson’s acclaimed Glass Onion: A Knives out Mystery, and Best Picture nominee All Quiet on the Western Front, which are the flicks that comprise the rest of the worldwide Top 5.

The Price of Family finds a long-married couple finally getting the house to themselves when their children grow up and head off to chase their dreams in the big city. However, it doesn’t take long before the parents begin to grow frustrated with their offspring’s lack of contact, so they decide to pretend they’ve inherited a multi-million fortune to see if bribery does the trick.

Funnily enough, it does, and much Christmastime hijinks ensue as the ruse barely holds together at the same time the fractured clan finally begins to reconnect.
