While Brie Larson may have been announced as Captain Marvel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, there’s still no word on who will direct the highly anticipated movie. Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) are penning the screenplay, but it appears as if Marvel Studios is taking their time when it comes to finding the right filmmaker for the job.
However, following the news that the shortlist had been whittled down to three names, Mashable reporter Jeff Sneider brings word that another contender may be in the mix.
That would be Rebecca Thomas, a filmmaker best known for directing 2012 Indie movie Electrick Children. She has a higher profile job coming up in the form of Universal’s upcoming Little Mermaid movie starring Chloë Grace Moretz, so it’s easy to see how she may have ended up on the radar of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios for Captain Marvel.
Chances are we won’t hear anything official about who will take the helm of Captain Marvel until late this year/early next, but with the character expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War (which begins shooting in the Fall), fans are hoping that a first official look at Larson suited up as the hero will come sooner rather than later.
Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but feel free to let us know who you would like to see direct Captain Marvel in the comments section below.
