Anya Taylor-Joy On New Mutants: Nothing Is Confirmed, Nothing Is Real

It's no secret that Fox's X-Men franchise is in a bit of trouble right now, what with Apocalypse failing to impress at the box office and leaving fans with a bitter taste in their mouths. It’s no secret that Fox’s X-Men franchise is in a bit of trouble right now, what with Apocalypse failing to impress at the box office and leaving fans with a bitter taste in their mouths. As such, the studio is considering a reboot of the series, and that honestly wouldn’t be the worst idea.

But while they continue to mull over how to proceed next, there are several spinoffs that we can look forward to in the meantime. Of course, there’s Logan, which will see Hugh Jackman play Wolverine once more this March, and also Deadpool 2, which is currently gearing up for production under director David Leitch. Those two aside, there’s a few other spinoffs simmering away in the early stages of development, too, one of which is New Mutants.

Last we heard, Josh Boone, who’s attached to direct, was in the process of location scouting and according to him, they already have a release date set for the film. In terms of casting, we learned earlier today that James McAvoy would be reprising his role as Professor X, while Anya Taylor-Joy, who’s seeing her career take off tremendously right now, is thought to be playing Magik. However, that’s far from confirmed and fans shouldn’t count her in just yet.

We sat down with the actress earlier today to talk about her new film Split, and when we asked her about her involvement in New Mutants, here’s what she told us:

“Nothing is confirmed. It’s definitely a world that I would like to be a part of. But nothing is real yet.”

Whether she’s just playing coy or actually hasn’t signed on the dotted line yet is hard to say, but either way, it seems that we’ve still got to wait a little bit longer before knowing for certain just which actress Fox and Boone have chosen to take the role. After all, Taylor-Joy isn’t the only talent who’s been linked to it, so at this point, it’s hard to say who will appear as Magik in the film.

With McAvoy’s involvement now confirmed, though, and the project starting to heat up, we imagine it won’t be too much longer before we get some official casting updates on New Mutants. Until then, though, tell us, who would you like to see star in Fox’s spinoff? Sound off below with your thoughts!
