Nonetheless, recent news about the upcoming opioid thriller Dreamland has raised concerns among the Call Me by Your Name star’s advocates. With principal photography on the Hammer-led film beginning this month, there’s been some speculation that the actor’s schedule won’t be open for The Batman, which is set to begin filming later this year.

Honestly, while it’s unlikely that Hammer will be the next Bruce Wayne, a scheduling conflict with Dreamland almost certainly won’t be the reason why he doesn’t land the gig. In fact, if a report from last month is anything to go by, then filming for The Batman may not even begin until November, giving Hammer a pretty generous span of time to shoot his scenes for Nicholas Jarecki’s picture.

In any case, though there are evidently a lot of people out there who think that Hammer is right for the part, the star is ultimately still just one in a sea of performers who could end up donning the cape. In fact, the claim has been made in multiple reports that Reeves’ film will take us back to Bruce’s younger days, suggesting that Warner Bros. may not be looking for someone in the 32-year-old’s age range anyway.

All in all, regardless of how Hammer’s schedule is shaping up right now, we wouldn’t put too much money on the actor being the next Dark Knight, but hopefully we’ll get some clarification in the next few months. Either way, we’ve still got a long wait ahead of us before The Batman hits theaters on June 25th, 2021.
