As the title character of 2008’s Iron Man, Downey can be considered one of the founding members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the saga’s longest running superhero. And in recognition of his importance, Evans tweeted the following message:

“Happy birthday to the man, the myth, the incomparable, the indomitable, @RobertDowneyJr

You’re a true original. Thank you for carrying us these last 10 years!!!!”

The rocky history between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers has been one of the key relationships of the MCU. Moreover, with both characters expected to drop out of the saga with Endgame, we can assume that this month’s release will bring some closure to their shared arc.

As it stands, Cap and Iron Man haven’t shared the screen since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, where they parted ways on bad terms. In the latest Endgame trailer, however, not only do we see the two of them back together, but we also receive confirmation that their friendship is rekindled.

For some fans, however, the long-awaited reunion between Steve and Tony is bittersweet, in that it’s widely predicted that one or both of them will be dead by the end of the movie. Even Evans himself recently joked about his character’s possible demise, much to the despair of the fans. Regardless, we still have a few more weeks to speculate on which of the pair is likely to make the sacrifice play, before Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
