Much to the surprise of no one, Avengers: Endgame is a force to be reckoned with at the global box office.
Earlier this week, the Marvel tentpole began its rollout overseas, where it set new records across China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and The Philippines. The current international haul stands at $305M, which is impressive in and of itself, but on home soil, Endgame is performing just as well.
Case in point: Joe and Anthony Russo’s event movie collected $60M from Thursday previews alone, easily surpassing the previous record holder Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $57M. That will surely tee up a historic weekend at the domestic box office, where Avengers: Endgame is expected to surpass $300M before Sunday. Whether that’s the case will be told in time, but at least for now, it’s fair to say that the MCU’s 22nd installment is off to a flyer.
As of yesterday, Endgame had opened across 25 international markets, where it amassed $305M in just two days. What’s more impressive is the fact that the film now holds the highest all-time single-day haul in the UK, Brazil, Egypt, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Trinidad and Uruguay. Meanwhile, Endgame also recorded the highest all-time opening day across Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, Bosnia/Herz, Czech Rep, Serbia (non-local), Slovakia, Turkey, and Ukraine. So, yeah, you could say that Joe and Anthony Russo’s star-studded epic is a force to be reckoned with.
At $365M and climbing, Avengers: Endgame will likely surpass the $1 billion mark faster than any superhero movie, well, ever. But it’s not just the box office numbers that are blowing people away; Endgame is a deeply emotional and well-thought-out blockbuster, one that almost demands a second and third viewing to truly appreciate its intimate character moments.
