After months of waiting, the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War hit the web last week and instantly went viral, breaking records to become the most-watched preview ever. Since then, fans have got creative with some nifty recreations of the teaser. One individual imagined what a Disneyfied take on the film would be like, for instance, and today, another has put together an awesome shot-for-shot recreation which uses clips from Marvel’s animated TV universe from the 1990s in place of the familiar MCU stars.

It’s an impressive piece of work from YouTube user Darth Blender, with some shots being pretty uncanny matches for the moments from the live-action action trailer. It also offers a welcome hit of nostalgia for longtime Marvel lovers who adored these cartoons when they were kids. Though they weren’t exactly the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the House of Ideas’ many animated shows from the 1990s – such as Spider-Man: The Animated Series, The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers: United They Stand – brought a huge portion of the comic book cast of characters to life.

Unfortunately, the lack of a Guardians of the Galaxy TV series from back then means that it’s impossible to recreate the trailer’s final stinger, which features Thor meeting Star-Lord and the gang. That being said, it would have been fun if Darth Blender had swapped those characters out for a clip from the beloved 1990’s X-Men: The Animated Series instead. After all, that might not be too far-fetched of a crossover idea if the much-discussed Disney/Fox deal goes through.

Poised to shake the MCU down to its very foundations, before Avengers 4 arrives to finish the job in 2019, Infinity War is the culmination of a ten-year movie arc and after that record-breaking first trailer, you can bet that anticipation is at an all-time high now. Not only that, but if the film’s official plot synopsis is to be believed, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be facing their deadliest showdown ever.
