We’ve been seeing a lot of designs lately from the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War artbook, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – The Art of the Movie, and several of these images exhibit an array of alternate outfits for Peter Parker. But there’s one particularly striking costume that’s got a few fans wondering what could’ve been.
The suit in question is the black-and-gold costume that features in one of the recently shared pieces of concept art. In all likelihood, this wardrobe change would’ve factored into the film in much the same way that Peter gets his Iron Spider outfit in the final cut. But seeing how the Marvel mega-hit saw the web-slinger journey into space, some fans are wondering if this dark design was intended to be the result of an encounter with a symbiote.
It’s not hard to see how someone could make the connection, given the extra-terrestrial origins of the species, but it seems doubtful that Marvel Studios would be willing to step this heavily into the territory covered by the new Venom, let alone do so in a film that’s already heavily stuffed with storylines. Surely Thanos is enough of an alien threat for one movie, right?
In any case, while this dark design was ultimately left out of Avengers: Infinity War, set photos show that Peter will be wearing a somewhat similar stealth suit in next year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, along with a new red-and-black outfit. You can see both costumes in action when the film hits theaters on July 5th, 2019, but first, Avengers 4 will presumably be offering an explanation for how the wall-crawler is in one piece again when it comes out on May 3rd of the same year.
