The arrival of Thor, Groot and Rocket at the climactic Battle of Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War left such a thunderous impression with audiences that many viewers probably didn’t even stop to question how exactly this unlikely trio knew where the fight against Thanos was based. Fans being fans, however, it was inevitable that this potential plot hole was going to be brought up eventually, and with the pic now available on Digital HD, directors Anthony and Joe Russo apparently thought it was a good time to offer some form of explanation.
As part of the Infinity War Vudu Viewing Party, the official Avengers Twitter account opened the floor to questions for the filmmaking duo. When one user brought up the matter of Thor’s entrance via the Bifrost, the brothers gave a quick clarification of how the God of Thunder was aware of where to head after retrieving his new weapon Stormbreaker.
“Thor knows Thanos is going after the Stones, and he knows that there are Stones on Earth, so that’s what leads him to Wakanda.”
While this answer explains how Thor and his Guardian companions ended up on the correct planet, Earth is a pretty big place, and it’s still not entirely clear how they knew to travel to this particular part of Wakanda where the action was located. Perhaps it’s just best to assume that Rocket had some form of technology that was able to pick up on the heated, super-powered conflict taking place in the region? After all, in a film that’s already pushing the two-and-a-half-hour mark and is juggling several different story strands at once, surely we can afford to leave a few plot particulars to the imagination, right?
For another look at Thor’s triumphant entrance and the entire Battle of Wakanda, Avengers: Infinity War is out now on Digital HD, and will be coming to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD on August 14th.
