And at $1.2 billion and counting, it’ll likely retain that title well into its third weekend at the domestic box office. Speaking of which, Variety has crunched the numbers to confirm that Infinity War is expected to lift anywhere between $50M and $60M in North America this coming weekend, which should allow the MCU blockbuster to leapfrog The Dark Knight – not to mention Rogue One and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast – to become one of the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time.

Yes, when it comes to the third Avengers film, the sky’s the limit, and in many ways, Marvel’s juggernaut owes its meteoric success to the beloved heroes lining its character roster. Case in point: the God of Thunder and the bearded Captain America, who’s on the verge of becoming Nomad by the time Infinity War gets going.

Truth be told, Steve Rogers doesn’t get an awful lot of screentime during Avengers: Infinity War – for Thor, it was quite the opposite, as Chris Hemsworth’s Norse god joined the Guardians on their journey to Nidavellir – though it’s all but certain that Cap (and Black Widow!) will be making up for lost time once Avengers 4 arrives in 2019.

Not only that, but Thor and Cap were among the few heroes left standing after Thanos’ snap of doom, so it’s all but certain that Marvel’s Phase One heroes will be the ones tasked with saving the universe next May – even if they are forced to make the ultimate sacrifice to undo the Mad Titan’s mass genocide…
