Everyone involved with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is keeping pretty tight lipped about the project, and understandably so. As one of the biggest films of the decade, the amount of rumors and speculation surrounding it have reached almost astronomical heights.
It seems that almost every other day a new report emerges that claims to have learnt new details pertaining to characters and plot, but the reality is, we still know very little about the highly-anticipated superhero showdown. At least, when it comes to confirmed information. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to change anytime soon, either.
For those of you who don’t know, Batman V Superman star Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Lex Luthor in the film, recently published a novel, and while doing interviews to promote it, we had the chance to catch up with him during a press event.
While most of the conversation revolved around his book, we did manage to sneak in one question pertaining to his experience filming Zack Snyder’s movie. He wouldn’t give us anything specific about the plot or characters, but he did mention one thing that we found quite interesting:
Since everyone here is obviously interested in writing in some capacity, I’ll tell you that the man who wrote the movie, Chris Terrio, is absolutely phenomenal. He also wrote Argo. He’s such a brilliant guy, so well read. He’s interested in very sophisticated topics and discussions. So in Batman V Superman, even though it’s a superhero movie, people who don’t necessarily see films in that genre, like this crowd, will probably enjoy it. It discusses some very sophisticated and important themes.
I think that from the footage that’s been released thus far, it’s been made clear that Batman V Superman is a very different kind of superhero movie. Unlike Marvel’s efforts, this film is a lot more grounded and set it a world that feels far more gritty and real. In fact, the whole DC Extended Universe is taking the same approach. So, it makes sense that Batman V Superman will be more than just a brainless popcorn film and will instead offer up some food for thought.
Of course, we’re not expecting the film to be completely realistic (these are superheroes we’re talking about, after all), nor do we think that it will leave us with a ton of deep conversations to have with friends. What we are expecting, though, now moreso thanks to Eisenberg’s confirmation, is a superhero film that’s completely different from what Marvel is currently doing, and one that may actually have something meaningful to say.
Tell us, what do you think of Jesse Eisenberg’s recent comments? Are you hopeful that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will dig a little deeper than your standard comic book movie? Sound off below!
