You didn’t think DC and Warner Bros. were going to let Marvel have all the fun now, did you? Barely a week has passed since the teaser clip for Civil War roared online and now, after a foreboding promo emerged featuring an unmasked Bruce Wayne, WB debuted the second full-length trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

If the first sizzle reel before it largely focused on the conflict between the titular titans, then last night’s footage offered a better glimpse at the film’s scope, and how Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent will eventually unite to fight on the same team – with more than a little help from Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

As early rumors had suggested, the core threat in Dawn of Justice will be the hulking abomination known as Doomsday. Brought to life with cunning glee by Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor in a way that feels eerily like Frankstein’s monster, the beast appears to have the Caped Crusader cornered like a deer in the headlights, though Wonder Woman leaps to the rescue for a scene that simply bleeds fan service.

But that’s not to say the latest Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer is a relentless barrage of action – there’s also the wonderfully understated exchange between Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne at a fancy soiree thrown by Luther. In many ways, it’s as though Eisenberg’s conniving megalomaniac is acting as an audience surrogate, marvelling at the fact that the pair stand side by side in the same room. It’s a feeling we share, too, Lex.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is primed to jump-start the DC Expanded Universe when it makes its bow on March 25, 2016. And by the looks of it, it’ll be chock full of comic book nods, but we’re still holding out hope to hear Ben Affleck’s vigilante recite the famous quote from The Dark Knight Returns: “I want you to remember, Clark…in all the years to come…in your most private moments…I want you to remember…my hand…at your throat…I want…you to remember…the one man who beat you.” One can hope!
