Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight

New BTS Image Surfaces Of Heath Ledger In Action On The Dark Knight Set

A new BTS images of Heath Ledger on the set of The Dark Knight has surfaced tonight, showcasing the Academy Award winner in action alongside Anthony Michael Hall.

What with Avengers: Infinity War being the talk of the town, the legend of The Dark Knight has somewhat flickered out of relevance, at least for the time being.

In my opinion, as the best superhero movie ever, an argument can be made that the Christopher Nolan-directed sequel to Batman Begins is the reason why the number of films to be nominated for Best Picture increased from five to ten in 2009. The Dark Knight was snubbed in the category at the 81st Academy Awards, leaving the public in an uproar – but that’s a debate for another day.

The film, however, did go on to earn eight Oscar nominations in 2008, winning Best Sound Editing, which was awarded to Richard King, and Best Supporting Actor, awarded to the late Heath Ledger for his portrayal of Bruce Wayne’s archenemy, the Joker.

We may be a decade removed from his iconic performance, but Ledger’s turn as the Clown Prince of Crime remains an acting benchmark, not just for superhero movies, but cinema in general. And today, a new BTS image of Heath in action has surfaced via the DC fan community, and it epitomizes that very fact.

The still features the actor as Mr. J holding a camcorder while filming his hostage scene with Anthony Michael Hall. You can check out the incredible snapshot below.

Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy concluded on July 20th, 2012 with the release of The Dark Knight Rises. Ever since then, and following the five-time Academy Award nominee’s departure, DC cinema has been in shambles.

While we won’t get to see another solo Bruce Wayne movie for some time – well, at least until Matt Reeves’ The Batman kicks off production, and who knows when that’ll be –  the DC fandom can at least take solace in the fact that The Dark Knight still remains the epitome of superhero cinema. Even to this day.
